Day Twelve - November 10th, 2010
Well, what can we say? This was a beautiful day for going for a bike ride. We left the motel at 8:30h in high 40 degree temperatures and it was close to 80 degrees before we quit.
We started well, but only 3 miles (5k) into the day, Harvey had a flat tire. It was, of course, the rear wheel. Thanks to having three other riders along, they (please note: not I, Harvey) had the tire apart, patched, replaced, pumped up, and back on the bike in about fifteen minutes.
It was a great day for a ride.
We left the motel on hwy 17 and follow 17 through Darien and then Brunswick. Leaving Brunswick, GA, we go over this long, graceful, high, bridge. About 1/4 way up, I stood up to ride and heard a 'ping,' but it meant nothing to me, and I kept riding.
Where hwy 17 meets I-95 just after Brunswick, we check into the Econolodge. It was only 15:30h (3:30 p.m.) and we've had a great day. Dale finds I have a broken spoke. Back wheel. Of course.
Paul and Dave set to taking the back wheel off my bike, removing the tire, tube, and rim tape from it. After taking out the broken spoke, Paul has a replacement and they replace the spoke, put everything back together, pump the tire up, check for truing and alignment, and the bike is ready to go again. Note again; my comrades came to the rescue. They fixed problems, not I.
We enjoyed the ride today and tomorrow we are done. We're just about 40 miles (60k) from Florida. Then it's off to the beach for a day.
Today we rode 114k in 5h 1m for an average of 22.8k/h. I think they're trying to kill me; these great (for me) averages.
