Day Thirteen - November 11th - Our Last
Our final day. It's November 11th. We go to leave the motel at 8:20h, but...
...my (Harvey, that is) back tire is flat. My three riding buddies take everything apart, patch, and reassemble. Dave pumps up the tire and... it's NOT holding air. Take it all apart again. Same result. Take it apart again and this time put a used tube in from Dave. It's actually too large, but they think they can get it to work.
Everything's back together and... we're in business. It looks like the tire is holding. Let's give it a shot.
At 9:10h (Dave said it's 9:11 on 11 - 11, but I round out to 5 mins), we leave the motel on hwy 17. We, of course, head south.
After riding 36 miles (58k) we arrive at the Florida border. It's right on 12 noon. After some picture taking and a 'toast' or two, we load up the van with three bikes, three riders and our driver. Three? What happened to number four?
Dale is having such a great day of riding, the weather is wonderful, and he just wants to keep on going. Who are we to stop him?
We drive to the Amelia Hotel At The Beach in Amelia Island (near Fernandina Beach), Florida, check in, clean up, and go for a walk.
Dale rode 'Brutus' (his bike) to the hotel and arrived only 1.5 hrs after us. He also checked in and then... went for a bike ride!
Our adventures are done. We are all going out for a farewell dinner, staying here tonight, and then Becky and I will be driving Paul and Dave to the Jacksonville Airport in the morning and they are flying home to Niagara Falls (we finished a couple days earlier than planned (mainly because of bad weather) and they decided to go home). Becky and I are heading to Orlando for a couple of days. Dale is staying in Amelia for a few days before flying home as he had his flight booked before we left Niagara.
We hope you have enjoyed our adventures. Be sure to post your comments below (and you can see others as well). Thanks for being with us, reading, and following along.
Paul, Dave, Dale, Becky, and Harvey.
Today I did 58k in 2h 26m for an average of 23.6k/h (short day). The guys pooled the mileage results and figure the three of us rode about 840 miles (1365k), and Dale over 900 miles (1465k).
Thanks again, and be sure to leave a comment.
